The biggest of paspaley pearls

Amazing paspaley pearls are supported by the high status of actually being the best and most outstanding pearls on earth. The Paspaley family migrated to Australia in 1919. It was then that a keen interest and passion for the industry was developed throughout the family and the pearling lifestyle has carried on with wonderful results. Noted as the most perfect pearls because of their shape, lustre as well as size, pearl jewelry collectors and admirers have been graced by these perfect South Sea glimmering gems.

The biggest of paspaley pearl necklace jewelry was cultured in 2002, and documented as the largest sized pearl ever made. The oyster of choice, where such natural beauty originated, snuggled inside the Pinctada Maxima, presented this much-desired spherical marvel, weighing in at 12.188 grams, or 60.940 carats, and measuring a stunning.8 of an inch (20.4mm) in diameter. This astounding silver-white pearl having a touch of soft pink and satin lustre is still a valued and precious centrepiece of the Paspaley collection.

* Almost all available pearls are cultivated now. Natural pearls are usually so puny and misshapen that they're worth less than the oyster meat surrounding them.

* Black and grey saltwater pearls are grown off the coast of Tahiti. I've forgotten in which places the pink/peach pearls are grown, you'll just have to read the book!

* The freshwater pearls that I use in my jewelry (and that are the most commonly available) are cultivated in China in freshwater mussels.

* Pearl cultivation begins when Japanese scientists insert a small plastic bead wrapped in oyster mantle tissue in just the right spot of the oyster. For freshwater mussels, only a piece of mantle tissue is needed.

* A saltwater oyster produces one pearl and requires pristine, clean water, as well as a host of other factors (depth, sunlight, temperature) to produce beautiful pearls.

*A freshwater mussel can produce more than a DOZEN pearls of different colors (white, orangish, pink, grey) at the same time and actually thrives in water polluted by agricultural runoff. So much so that they add extra fertilizer to the water where they have the mussels growing.

* Almost all pearls (even the really high-end ones) go through some sort of dyeing/bleaching process to clear up imperfections.MORE:black tahitian pearl earring

For it's luster and beauty

Akoya pearls are produced from the oyster known as Pinctada fucata martensii, which is the smallest pearl producer known in the oyster family. These pearls are known for their pristine round shapes, which make them an ideal and popular choice for necklaces and matching earrings. However, aside from being consistently round, they can also have a semi-round, baroque and semi-baroqe shape.
Although also produced in China, they previously were considered the Japanese pearl, and were cultured primarily in Ehime, Mie, Oita, Nagasaki and Kumamoto prefectures.

The water temperature of the ocean where they grow is considerably low, and fluctuates with the coming of each new season. Akoya pearls develop a unique luster and color, which is caused by the compacting of the aragonite crystals pearl necklace jewelry which form in the water during seasonal change. The ideal Akoya pearl is one that has the perfect amount of crystals as well as nacre, and is considered to be the most lustrous and beautiful of all pearls.

For it's luster and beauty, the akoya pearl is used in a lot of pearl jewelry sets, as well as akoya pearl necklaces. An akoya pearl jewelry set makes the perfect Christmas, birthday, or anniversary gift.

Abalone pearls found in nature vary greatly in color and shape, and may either be solid or hollow. The shapes may be round, oval, flat baroques, or even giant horn-like shapes. The colors of the natural abalone pearls may be anything between royal blues and greens, and magentas, or silver pinks, golds, bronzes, silvers, crèmes, purples, and even mystifyingly beautiful combinations. It is even possible for a single abalone to produce several pearls of different shapes and colors. Natural abalone pearls grow within thick nacreous layers which are joined together with organic conchiolin. They are formed in a way that is quite similar to the way Oriental Pearls are formed, except that the nacreous layers in abalone are thicker.

Abalone pearls may be used within all different kinds of accessories and jewelry, and may even be matched for sets as long as they are painstakingly collected by the right jeweler. Though expensive for pearl farming, abalone does have its commercial advantages, as it is the only mollusk which can be used in its entirety. Its shell is used for inlay, buttons, and carvings, its meat is used for food, its guts are used for fishing bait, and of course, its pearls are wondrously valuable gems. The price of abalone pearls can range anywhere from several hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, in the case of the rarest, highest quality pearls.MORE;black tahitian pearl earring

Cultured pearls and natural pearls

Around the commencement of the 20th century, researchers found that if a sphere of material was placed in an oyster, the oyster would coat the sphere with nacre, creating an almost perfectly round pearl. The longer the pearl remained in the oyster, the larger and more valuable it became. Almost all cultured pearls (as they are called) grown on pearl farms - a growing industry in today's world. Different types of oysters or mollusks raised in different environments create cultured pearls in different sizes, colors and shapes. Man cultivates pearls by placing shell beads inside an oyster shell. The oyster is returned to the water for a length of time where it covers the bead with layers of nacre. Most cultured and quality pearls are produced in Japan. In the warm waters of the South Pacific, large oysters produce South Sea cultured pearls and Tahitian black cultured pearls. In China, freshwater pearls are cultured in freshwater mussels.

Cultured pearls and natural pearls can be easily distinguished from imitation pearls by performing a very simple test. By rubbing the pearl against the edge of a tooth one can see that a cultured and natural pearl will feel slightly rough, like fine sandpaper, because of the texture of natural nacre. An imitation pearl remains smooth because the surface is molded or painted and is not affected by exterior materials.

FASHION silver bracelets come in a range of sizes as well as qualities. The size, quantity and quality will depend largely on your budget. The more you can spend the bigger and more pearls you can get for the necklace. However you may not want large pearls of course. The shape and thickness of the neck is important so that you pick the size that is right for you. If one's neck is on the thin size too big pearls will emphasis the thinness of the neck. While too small a set of pearls on a thicker neck will look tiny and out of place.

Also when you are inspecting the necklace, check that the pearls are uniform in color, luster and size. There should be no uneven pearls and all should be the same shape, either round or perhaps slightly oval in some cases.

The luster should be good and you should also get a certificate to state the pearls are genuine and not fake.

Black pearls are among the most expensive and so you should choose with care for the money you are paying.MORE;white pearl necklace

And best of all, most of it will be FREE

- When finishing beading wire, crimp beads or tubes are the usual method. You can then choose which clasp you want to use (e.g. lobster clasp), whether you want to add a crimp cover, and whether you want to add a wire guardian to protect the loop at the end of the wire from wear.

- When finishing beading thread, it is very similar to finishing beading wire but you can add French wire/gimp instead of the wire guardian in order to protect your thread from wear. You can also finish off a single beaded strand with end caps if you wish, like in this example.

- For both beading wire and thread, you could use double loop bead tips attached over a knot in the thread, or a crimp bead.
For multi-strand necklaces you can use 3-to-1 links, jump rings or end caps to join the multiple strands together at the ends.

Finally, check out this page for a great summary if you're still unsure.

Now I'm not saying that all of the links you'll find will necessarily be 100% quality links; many of the videos are rough at best, some of the photos may not be very clear, some of them are just plain confusing, BUT . . . I am usually able to come away with "something" of value from each link I view. It may be only a comment like "you can use different wire gauges in your pieces" (and you can!) or it may be the way a person holds a specific tool that makes looping wire easier for your wrist . . .

All I'm trying to say is that there will come a time when you have something specific in your head about what kind of Crystal Jewelry you want to create and you'll have a question about how to accomplish it. By typing a specific query into a search bar on your computer, you have access to lots of answers and solutions. And let's face it, it's online. If you don't like the link you clicked on or are confused, click out of it and go on to the next one. Yes, it's that simple.

And best of all, most of it will be FREE! :)

The 'costume' of Ariel's that people are most familiar with.
There's not much to it, really! Purple shell bra, green fish tail, and a long red wig.

So how to make a shell bra?
One option is to take a strapless bra with a narrow strap around the back, and sculpt two shells to cover over the bust, hiding the Fashion Jewelry Store  cups.
Most clays should work for this, but something with a frame or armature would work well to help strengthen it. Just make sure if you do use air dry or water clay that you don't use an armature because the clay will try to shrink in around it as it tries and can crack.
My clay of choice is du-kit, it has a gentle flex, doesn't shrink or expand, and can be sanded or filed after being baked.

As for the tail, that'll be a bit harder, and it depends whether you're going for accuracy (and are stuck sitting) or want something you can walk around in.
For the fabric, go for a shimmery green fabric, or something that has a green 'fish scale' pattern on it. I personally don't like the look of sequins (far too shiny), It should have a stretch to it, in order to fit as snugly around your hips and legs as possible.
For the fins, use something lighter, and stiffer. If you're doing a 'walkable' costume, you may want fins that can be hooked up out of the way while walking, that can be let down for pictures.pearl necklace jewelry

Freshwater pearls are just that

Natural pearls are found in the pearl oysters, which are found in tropical seas, mostly in Asia. Quite a large number would have to be found to be able to make a matched string, which would explain their greater value.

Freshwater pearls are just that. They are formed in the pearl mussels which are found in many rivers of Asia, Europe and the United States. They, too, can be cultivated in pearl farms, and can be matched or not. It might well be that the pollution in American rivers will have some effect on the occurrence of pearls, as might the depletion of water supplies in some states. In Florida, environmentalists say that a dispute about water with Georgia and Alabama, is about more than water needs for humans or the survival of some endangered species of mussels. The mussels are a vital indicator of the health of the Apalachicola River.

unlike any other gem on the earth.

Natural Silver Jewelry grow naturally in oysters living at sea without the human intervention. When any irritant or a parasite enters inside an oyster or mollusk then the process of natural coating begins with layer upon layer of nacre inside the oyster. But natural pearls are rarely found now-a-days. On the other hand culture pearls are very real and genuine. These cultured pearls are formed with the human help when a nucleus is implanted inside the oyster and then the process of coating begins with layers upon layers of iridescent substance called nacre and it takes about 2-5 years to form a complete pearl depending upon techniques and where it is grown, sea or rivers among other conditions. Reflection and refraction from the translucent layers truly determines the unique luster quality of pearls. The display of iridescence in pearls is result of overlapping of successive layers.

All the pearls found and sold in the market today are cultured pearls, be it fresh water or seawater pearls. Fresh water pearls are generally grown in ponds, lakes or rivers whereas seawater pearls are grown under sea waters. Fresh water pearls are known by fresh water pearls name only and sea water cultured pearls go by different names such as Akoya. Tahitian and South sea water pearls depending upon the bivalve mollusks types producing them. No matter fresh water or sea water pearls, quality and price again depends upon the size, shape, lustre, color and surface etc.MORE:black tahitian pearl earring

Do you have a obsession for pearls

Do you have a obsession for pearls? Do you buy pearl jewelry, and purchase strands and loose pearls to make your own? If you try to utilize pearls in your life, from including them in your sewing and craft projects to learning how to string and knot your own creations, then you have pearl passion!

And you are not alone. There are so many people out there who are pearl lovers.

Most people don't realize how important it is to string pearls correctly, but if you are a pearl enthusiast then you know how the knots in the line keeps the pearls from rubbing together. Knotting also eliminates the danger that all of your pearls will go sliding of the string if it were to break!

If you really have a passion for Silver Jewelry you probably have an extensive collection. Perhaps you have items you don't wear anymore; you've grown tired of the style, or the color no longer matches anything you own.

In this case, why not recycle your pearls? Take your jewelry apart, and make something brand-new. A long strand necklace can be turned into a double row bracelet and a pair of chandelier earrings, or a bracelet can be combined with some extra pearls to create a choker.

The Tahitian Pearl sometimes called the "Black Pearl", although not grown in Tahiti, is cultured in French Polynesia. And Tahiti is part of that group of islands, even though they don't culture pearls in Tahiti. The islands are not called the Tahitian Islands but French Polynesia. This group of islands is the largest grower of the "Black lipped" pearl oysters (Pinctada margaritifera). This oyster grows wild from the Persian Gulf, the Indian Ocean to the Central Pacific Ocean. They live in the latitudes just north of the Equator.

And just so you won't think I am telling stories, there are "Black Pearls" growing in the Eastern Pacific, near to Baja California and south to Peru, called La Paz pearl oysters (Pinctada mazatlanica). And the Rainbow-lipped pearl oyster (Pteria sterna). And these 2 different oysters also produce a dark bodied pearl sometimes sold as "Black Pearls". Sometimes the pearls from the Rain-bow lipped oyster are called "Rainbow Pearls". MORE;black tahitian pearl earring

The author of The Crystal Bible

All birthstones are gemstones and crystals - and they are all purported to have powers. There is no better source of this information than The Crystal Bible.

I came into contact with this book first at a huge jewel and gem table at Pantheacon. Pantheacon is a huge pagan celebration where jewelry and gems are very important because it is believed that stones and jewels are very powerful. The woman who was selling the crystals and gems truly believes that they are very powerful, and every stone came with a description of what the stone delivered. When I asked her how she got the information she showed me an extremely well used copy of this book - in fact it was dog-eared and held together by tape.

The author of The Crystal Bible is Judy Hall Crystal Jewelry, who is definitely the authority in the field of crystals and gems. British born Judy Hall is a psychic and karmic astrologer - and she has written more books about every aspects of all kinds of crystals than anyone else. Ms. Hall runs crystal healing workshops, uses crystals with her counselling and just basically is the go to person when it comes to rocks.

There are a great many excellent steampunk sites out there. Fashion and cosplay sites, art, literature and movie sites, steampunk conventions, etc. However, there doesn't seem to be one site that brings them all together, nor are there many sites regarding steampunk architecture and design (a particular interest of mine). I'm hoping to be able to discuss, show and give leads to all aspects of the steampunk genre. For those new(er) to steampunk, there's a brief history and explanation of the genre as well. Below that I'll post new steampunk stuff that I come across, and below those will be all the topic-specific articles and lists, such as books, movies and other resources. Thanks for looking!MORE:

High quality freshwater pearls

Pearls emanate certain warmth and glow not found in other gems, due to their unique formation inside oysters' body. Freshwater cultured pearls are more than just jewels. Freshwater cultured pearls are not only symbol of purity; virtue and modesty but are real organic gems on this earth.

Freshwater cultured pearls are grown from freshwater mussels in bays, ponds, lakes and rivers. China is the main producer of freshwater cultured pearls but some pearls come from Japan, United States and other parts of the world. Freshwater cultured pearls are cheaper and come in unique shapes and colors and are quite popular in recent years. Although white is synonymous with pearl and is the most common color but freshwater cultured pearls are available in many attractive colors like cream, pink, peach, lavenders and black etc.

High quality freshwater Crystal Jewelry are as good as saltwater cultured pearls. Freshwater pearls are cheaper and come in unique shapes and colors and are quite popular in recent years. Although white is synonymous with pearl and is the most common color but freshwater pearls are available in many attractive colors like cream, pink, peach, lavenders and black etc. Different natural colors are normally results of various other factors such as mussel species or genetics, the water quality and the position of the pearl in the shell. Pearls can be colored-dyed also as per fashion and style.

By contrast, saltwater pearls grow in oysters that live in the ocean, usually in protected lagoons. Akoya pearls, Tahitian pearls and South Sea pearls and are the three main types of saltwater pearls. Nonetheless, they all are cultured with the human help. Natural pearls are rarity now.MORE:Pearl Jewelry

with a few books on jewelry

Tim McCreight's The Complete Metalsmith has been required reading in nearly every metalsmithing class since the original edition was published in 1985! This spiral bound, 312-page Complete Metalsmith: Professional Edition is aimed at experienced metalsmiths and includes a full page on mokume gane and a total of 1600 hand-drawn illustrations. The hidden spiral binding holds the book open to any page so you can refer to it while you're working at your studio bench.

While the jewelry making kits for beginners have instructions, it doesn't hurt to consult with a few books on Pearl Jewelry making as well. Personally, I prefer lots of photos (since I'm a very visual person), and these books have great pictures! Plus, you will find lots of step by step instructions - perfect for the beginner! So, dig in...learn, and most importantly, have fun!

Now... you'll see my personal little commentary here. After investigating every book and what people had to say about them, I honestly can't say, "Get this one above all others." Frankly, they're all pretty wonderful... well... except: You'll notice that I added the "for Dummies" book. The "for Dummies" series has a kind of formula that doesn't always quite lend itself to a topic. For some reason, as I was looking at these books, I wasn't "seeing" myself learning from that book. But, I include it because the series IS well known for providing decent resources. Ok. Done with that disclaimer! Now... take a look at these beauties!

Don't worry if it seems like nothing much is happening after the first few passes through the pasta machine. You'll probably start to see some strange patterns after about 10 passes (see the photo at the left). That's normal! The exact number of passes required to achieve a color gradient varies, but usually it takes around 20 passes or so. You will start to see fairly distinct bands of color that will start to blend with the adjacent colors gradually with each pass through the pasta machine rollers. Continue folding and rolling until the color gradient is as smooth and gradual as you would like (see large photo above).MORE:Fashion Jewelry Store

At harvest the Crystal Jewelry are collected and sorted. And this is where it gets interesting....and stinky. When drilled, these mud nucleated pearls ooze a stanky sludge that rivals the "foul smelling awfulness" through which Andy Dufresne crawled to freedom from Shawshank Prison. One pearl driller once told me the dark slimy muck that seeps from these pearls is so malodorous it "curls the eyelids and singes the nose hairs."

The good news is once souffle pearls are drained and flushed none of bad smell lingers. All that remains is a pearl of singular beauty that is much lighter than a bead nucleated pearl of similar size. Due to a very thick nacre coating these pearls have excellent structural integrity and are very strong and stable.Pearl Jewelry

Females use turquoise jewelry

Pearls are known for their cool and smooth appearance with their unique luster. Pearls are also famous for their quality and worth. Pearls jewelry is higher in elegance as compared to other expensive and heavy metallic jewelry due to its simplicity.

A single pearl strand can magnify the beauty of anyone and that too without any other exclusive accessories. There are different types of pearls available in the market like fresh water pearl, natural pearls, artificial pearls etc. Pearls are versatile in their size, shape and color with wide range of quality and prices.   Normally, pearls are of round, flat, drop, rice, petal, or oval in shape with different large or small sizes. Out of many shapes of pearls, only round or flat pearl is in high demand in the market. The main reason for their high demand is that they are able to set easily in metallic frames of gold or silver. The flat pearls are round at one end and flat from other end, therefore they can fit in the design of jewelry with ease. Hence, artists usually not face much difficulty to frame any pearl jewelry with such types of pearls. Also they are used in preparing bracelets, gorgeous necklaces and earrings along with the strands of flat pearls.

Females are born to dress up themselves, they know how to make themselves beautiful and distinctive. Many Japanese female stars like to use pearl jewelry to match their full dress while attending important occasions. That is because pearls are smooth and of high quality, which can leave people a kind of gentle and intellectual feeling. That will definitely make girls stand out from a crowd. Especially when you match a piece of vintage lacroix with pearl necklace and earrings, you will be the most charming girl in the party.

Females use turquoise Silver Jewelry gemstone jewelry, crystal jewelry, sterling silver jewelry, but pearl jewelry is so special. It's unbelievable that they are from a kind of shells. Pearl contains calcium carbonate, calcium oxide, calcium phosphate, calcium sulfate, and magnesium, manganese, copper, iodine, phosphorus, strontium, lead, sodium, potassium and other elements, and a dozen amino acids. Usually pearls are divided into Three kinds : upmarket pearls, pearls in bulk and semi-finished pearls. Three nature colour: white, purple and gold. However, by dyeing, the number of colour reach to forty-three, black, green, blue, red, pink and so on. These pearls are made into different Accessories, in other words, pearl jewelry set, including hairpins, pearl earrings, pearl necklace, brooch, bracelet and pearl rings. How beautiful they are!! Husbands buy one pearl necklace and packed it in a refined wooden box for his wife. You know how happy the wife is? Pearl jewelry can be an idea present for the important person in your life. A glamorous pearl necklace or a coruscating galaxy of ring will always inspire women greatly.MORE;Crystal Jewelry

Freshwater pearls may also be dyed

Freshwater pearls may also be dyed. Be sure to ask if the color is natural. Color is usually considered the most important factor affecting value and cost. If a pearl is of natural color it will sell in the market place for much higher amount than a pearl that has been dyed a certain color. If purchasing a pearl that is of natural color be sure it is and that it is stated on the bill of sale. The South Sea Specimens are often less perfectly round and have a less intense luster than their smaller Japanese counterpart, but they are very beautiful and very expensive.

A Tahitian black pearl color normally does not run through the entire pearl. When looking at the stone it could be lighter on one side and when you turn it over it could be black on the opposite end. With practice and experience (and further education if you're really serious), a loupe can tell even the amateur a great deal. Using a gemologist can help to determine if the pearl stone is synthetic, natural made of glass or has many imperfections like blemishes or cracks in the stone. In other words, the loupe can provide the necessary information to help you know whether the stone is in fact what it is supposed to be.

Being so soft, Crystal Jewelry scratch very easily, so store them in a box lined with something soft. Or at least wrap them in a soft cloth before you put them away. Most other gemstones, like diamonds, are much harder than pearls, and can give them a nasty scratch if they're jostled together. If you have to put them in the same box, the pearls must be wrapped up to protect them.

Pearl Safety Tips

Keep chemicals away from pearls, or they will get damaged. Chemicals can erode the pearl's lustrous surface, leaving them dull. So avoid any alcohol based cleaning fluids, or anything with vinegar. It's a good idea to put your pearls on just before you leave, so that you don't accidentally get any makeup or hairspray on them. Both of these can stain or damage your pearls.

As an extra precaution, it might be worth getting your pearl jewelry restrung every year or two. Pearls are often strung on silk thread, and this weakens over time. If you wear your pearls a lot, the constant movement of the pearls can also damage the silk. Although pearls require some care to keep them at their best, it's definitely worth the effort.MORE:Silver Jewelry

A strand of cultured pearls

Pearls have long been associated with love, marriage, and beauty, across many different cultures. An ancient Hindu legend attributes the discovery of the very first pearl to Lord Krishna, who then offered it to his daughter Pandaia as a wedding gift.

In ancient China, pearls were offered to idols and religious statues, and then were restricted to be worn only by the powerful and mighty. Similarly, in the late Middle Ages, many European countries passed "Pearl laws" that restricted the wearing or pearls to only those who ranked highest in society. Aristocratic ladies would often wear their pearls day and night, believing that doing so would give them better dreams and would ensure continued prosperity. Festive occasions such as coronation banquets, victory celebrations, and of course weddings, were also a very popular time to show off one's pearls.

Perhaps most notably, at the famous Landshut Wedding of 1475 held in Bavaria, Germany, the spectacular display of pearls and pearl jewelry literally made history. The Landshut Wedding saw Hedwig, princess of Poland and Daughter of King Casimir III, marry "George the Rich", the son of the Duke of Landshut. Ten thousand people are said to have attended the grand affair, and in addition to the bride and groom, the courts of both the Princess and the Duke presented such a lavish display of pearls that it was spoken of for centuries. Today, this historic wedding is commemorated at a festival in Landshut, Germany held every four years, with thousands dressing in medieval costumes (and donning pearls!) to recreate the event and life in the late middle ages.

A strand of cultured pearls is elegant but functional. It goes as well with a business suit as it does with a cocktail dress or casual blouse. Cultured white pearl necklace is an essential part of every woman's wardrobe. A young girl's first "real" piece of jewelry could be a pair of pearl earrings. She will wear them on dates, to graduation, and on job interviews. On her wedding day, these pearl earrings could be the "something old" that she wears as she walks down the aisle. Your mother or grandmother probably has a strand of Akoya cultured pearls that she received as a gift years ago. A matching pearl bracelet, pearl ring, or pearl brooch will show her how much you love and cherish her.

You do not have to be an expert on pearls to select and purchase them. With a little preparation, shopping for cultured pearl jewelry can be easy. It is recommended to buy from a jeweler that you trust. Ask friends, relatives, and co-workers who their favorite jewelers are.
